My first ever Guitar Instructional video is here.

I'm proud and excited to announce my first guitar instructional video, Essential Percussive Guitar Riffs, available today from

A huge lesson with me, over 2 hours long, based around 10 riffs which I've specially composed to break down modern techniques like percussion, tapping, harmonics and upside-down playing, step by step, so that you can understand them, master them, and make music with them.

I will teach you not just what to learn, but how to learn it. All the secrets, revealed.

  • 2 hours 25 minutes running time
  • Multiple video angles
  • 10 incredible riffs
  • Full tab for every riff
  • Every riff in the same tuning
  • Playable on any acoustic guitar
  • Every technique fully explained
  • Advice and guidance
  • The impossible, made possible!

Only from

I've put my heart and soul into making this. If you're not a guitar player yourself, please recommend this video to any that you know, or maybe share my facebook video commercial:

If you are a guitarist but you don't think you can manage these techniques: That's because I didn't show you how yet! YOU. CAN. DO. IT. :)

New vid: High & Dry out today

New vid: My cover of High And Dry by Radiohead

Guitar Tab finally available for this song at  Every technique is explained. It’s a complete walkthrough guide to the song.

High And Dry is the 7th video from from the Acoustic Asylum series. Get the song and album and Pay What You Want from
Also on iTunes or Google Play or Amazon

I've been playing this song for the best part of two decades. For my very oldest fans and friends, this is the one they think of when they think of me, even though it's a cover. I love the song deeply. I’ve always been convinced it’s about Gene Kelly's character in the movie "Viva Kneivel!", an alcoholic ex-stunt motorcyclist.

Performance wise, this arrangement channels Michael Hedges maybe more than anything else I've ever come up with. Not just the guitar techniques, but the vocal, even the bare feet.

I've played it better than this, but I've played it worse. It's kinda slow: I was a bit bipolar, so I'm dragging it back, fighting myself, and I probably over-compensated. Maybe that makes it me.

My Face, Your Local News-stand

I've been on not one but two magazine covers recently. You can see me glowering at passers-by from the shelves of your local store, on the cover of Acoustic magazine. What a surreal honour. I felt kinda nervous when I went to buy my own copy.

There's an interview with me, and another one with George Lowden about the designing and building of my signature model guitar. And there's a lesson, with some of my riffs transcribed. If you missed it, you can still buy a copy here.

And I'm also very grateful to be the first ever acoustic artist on the cover of Guitar Interactive magazine. In this one, there's 5 videos of me playing songs on my signature model, including an unplugged (i.e. recorded straight into a microphone) version of my old instrumental tune Topeka, which I'm really happy with. And there's a really in depth review of the guitar too.

Happy reading, don't get a paper cut.

New signature model guitar!

I'm bursting with pride to finally announce that the Jon Gomm Hybrid Top Signature model is now available from Lowden Guitars.

It's much more than just a replica of Wilma, my beloved Lowden. It's a guitar with every aspect tailored specifically for the modern player, including the world's first spruce and cedar layered soundboard which I've dubbed the Hybrid Top, for added resilience and epic, deep, powerful tone. I REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS GUITAR!

New video Temporary out now

Links so you can spread the love :

Temporary is the 5th release from the Live In The Acoustic Asylum series. The lyrics are blurry, flickering childhood memories of being with my mum at a really difficult time in our lives. The message, if there is one, is: Emotions pass. So, this one’s for my empowering and inspirational friend, Elizabeth Gomm.

Get the Pay What You Want song + album here: Also on iTunes or Google Play or Amazon

Guitar Tab available here: Transcribed by me, with detailed notes explaining every technique.

Back on TV - Guitar Star series 2

I'm gonna be back on TV for an episode of Sky Arts Guitar Star, on air in the UK and Ireland this summer. I think I managed to genuinely improve some kids' technique last year, so hopefully this year's batch will be just as open to my meddling. This series features the actual George Benson among other luminaries. Can't wait to get his autograph.

Tour Break

I'm taking a little break from touring right now, to work on new songs, and to do some big life stuff at home. I'll be back on the road before you can say "epic emotional eight-finger-tapping solo".

There will still be new videos from Acoustic Asylum coming to your internet very soon!

Thanks to everyone who came out to see me in Germany recently. And thanks to anyone who has ever told another person about my music. Last time I toured Germany was right after I had a viral video, so I thought "this is the peak, it's all downhill from here!" (I don't mind that, I spent years playing little pubs and I loved it, and I fully expect to return.) Now 3 years later, my audiences are twice the size. I can't really explain this, so it must be you! Thanks for caring enough to spread the word, it has genuinely changed my life.

Beautiful people in Berlin

On stage in Cologne

Sold out crowds in Frankfurt above and Hamburg below

With my German road warriors Kugler & Waloshick

I just uploaded a new video...

New video out today, hope you dig it. (And if you do, please share.)
It's an instrumental tune called Stupid Blues, and it exists purely for the joy of playing.

This is the 4th release from the Live In The Acoustic Asylum series. Buy the song + album (Pay What You Want) here: or from iTunes or Google Play Amazon

Guitar Tab only available here: Transcribed by me, with detailed notes explaining every technique.

Tour stuff.
Just Germany/Switzerland left now, then I'm taking a little break from touring while I concentrate on other stuff, including writing some new songs. (Got a few almost finished that I'm actually quite proud of. A bit.)

Love from,

I made a new album and a new video, and they're both out today...

New video and album out today.
This song means a lot to me, so releasing it is terrifying, like a bird pushing her baby out of the nest and hoping it flies. Hope you like it. If you do, please tell somebody about it.

Get the album Live In The Acoustic Asylum, out today, Pay What You Want, from (or from iTunes but it's twice the price and I get less money). Guitar Tab available from

This is how these songs should've always sounded. Organic, warm, raw. Alive. Signed CDs also available...

Another dodgy new interview
I was asked "who is the most over-rated guitarist?" and I was on a bipolar day so, stupidly, I answered, and with some enthusiasm. Seriously hope the guitarist in question never hears this. Argh. Pretty funny interview with the lovely Scott Cowie, here (audio):

Thankyou SO MUCH to everyone who has watched and shared my two recent videos. Thanks to you, The Weather Machine hit 250,000 views after the first week. There's still 6 more videos in the can from the Acoustic Asylum series. My friend Owen "Passionflower" Plummer is busy editing the footage, and I'm busy transcribing the guitar tabs, and the next video will be out as soon as we can get it ready.

Keep in touch, yeah? :)

Love from,

Brand New Video 'The Weather Machine'...

I have another brand new video for you, it's called The Weather Machine. Watch here:

Pleeeeease share it with your friends (if you like it), to help me get this music into as many ears as possible, and hopefully continue my lifelong mission of not getting a real job.

The lyrics tell an allegorical tale mocking Western anti-terror propaganda. Musically it's a metal-heavy Arabic-influenced onslaught. It might offend the sensibilities of some of my acoustic purist fans (sorry folks), but to me being a songwriter is sometimes about more than painting pretty pictures.

This is the second video from the album Live In The Acoustic Asylum, out September 8th. Download the song, or pre-order the full album, and Pay What You Want, here: Guitar tab available here:

New Album Update
If you're not sure about pre-ordering the album, or need a way to convince your friends, here's quotes from some very flattering reviews it's had already:

"These are the kind of songs only the dead could fail to be moved by." - Musical Melting Pot

"An inexplicably wondrous album that will take your breath away and leave you in a musical daze. And, even though it’s a live album, the recording quality is phenomenal so get your best headphones out, whack up the volume and shut out the world." - Mytacism Music

And thanks to twitter, my last video Gloria had these lovely endorsements from David Crosby (Crosby, Stills & Nash), Steve Lukather (Toto), and Tommy Lee (Motley Crue)...

Confessional new Interview
I talk about the weird reality of performing with bi-polar disorder, dealing with a drunk docker on stage, and authenticity in music, in this painfully frank and honest new interview:  Maybe I'm too open for my own good. :/

Sky Arts 'Guitar Star'
UK and Ireland people might have seen me on the actual TV recently: I was invited to be a guest mentor for the semi-final of TV show Guitar Star. It seemed to me like a cool show about the craft of guitar playing, with no horrible X Factor stuff like tragic back-stories or shady contracts for the winners. The other mentors were people like Tony Iommi, Nitin Sawhney and Paco Peña, so I've no idea why they asked me!

Meeting Paco Peña was magical for me: I first heard his intensely passionate, powerful music when I checked one of his albums out of Blackpool Library when I was 12 years old. Now I have his autograph on the back of my guitar!

Tour dates and Asia shout-out
It looks like I'll be heading to Asia for dates in China, South Korea and Hong Kong at the end of 2015, and we're trying to set up more in the region. So if you know a promoter or venue (or you are one) who might want to organise a show, tell them to give me a shout! The best person to email is my awesome, long-suffering manager Natasha at

Here's the rest of my upcoming dates, including shows with guitar geniuses Don Ross and Antoine Dufour, and some regular solo gigs.
